Our Circle Line Boat Ride took place on Saturday, September 3rd. We sailed at 4 PM. The three hour boat ride encircled the entire island of Manhattan, passing beneath the many bridges that connect Manhattan to the outer boroughs and New Jersey.
Brother Kurt had scored coupons that allowed us to go on the Boat Ride for $18, one half the price. Brothers Kurt, James, Everett, boyzack, myself (Alvin) and two guests, Robert and Joe, all came out.
You could live in New york for your entire life and never see the views of Manhattan (or the outer boroughs and New Jersey) that you get to see on this Boat Ride. We enjoyed great weather in addition to the inspiring scenery.
Following the Boat Ride, we convened for dinner at the Dallas BBQ on 42nd St. This is an enormous restaurant that seats 1500 people and we still had to wait to be seated! The shear volume of this place can be overwhelming, but the food was delicious. We had a great meal that rounded out an equally great day. A really good time was had by all!

High Line Hike

The High Line is an elevated railway that has been transformed into a glorious city park. It includes small vistas throughout, places to sun, a fountain that bubbles up from a grate and spills across the sidewalk, art work, sculpture and many seating areas. The High Line provides a unique view of the well-trod terrain between 26th and 14th Streets on the West Side of Manhattan.
Our hike took place on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM. Kurt and I (Alvin) enjoyed a sunny and sight-filled walk...to the west, the streets led to the Hudson River w/ New Jersey in the distance...to the East we viewed Chelsea, the Village and the fabulous Manhattan cityscape.
The walk was immediately followed by a Meet and Greet at the Center, which featured great company, good food and a lively discussion.
It was a good day for BLOC!

Dim Sum in Chinatown; Governors Island

We met in Chinatown for a Dim Sum luncheon. After lunch, we headed
to South Ferry for the ferry ride over to Governors Island.
About the luncheon: Besides dim sum, there are regular Chinese items
on a separate menu. The price should be roughly $12-$15 apiece, although it might be a little less.
About Governors Island: Governors Island has become a special place to
visit in New York harbor. There's a lot of things to see and do,
including a visit for prison aficionados (or those with jail
fantasies!) to the ancient prison where the city housed rioters during
one of the blackouts. The ferry runs every 30 minutes from South
Ferry. http://govisland.com/html/home/home.shtml
