There have been a number of discussions that have spun off in the wake of Tyler McCormick's win at IML. The obvious ones are still playing out: What place do transmen have in our male spaces? and, to a lesser degree, What obstacles do we put in place to block disabled folks from joining the rest of us at the table?
One of the more interesting discussions involves questioning the term "leather" itself. Depending on your perspective, the concept of leather is under expansion or dilution. We talk about our "Leather Community" but what and who does that "leather" moniker include? We're a vast and varied collective of transgressive pervs who identify under the collective umbrella of The Leather Community, but can we all co-exist happily together under the same banner? What does the new gen boi in a spandex singlet have in common with the Old Guard master in his run pin covered bar vest? This month I've asked to address the question, "What is Leather". Send us your voice and we'll add it to the chorus.
